Funk for Folks by Citrus

From Citrus' myspace blog

Played a really fun show on Friday night...Not many people came out...bout 60-70 mugs in a 300 capacity room!
but...we had children dancing the ring around the rosie...my lil dog Soup runnin all around smiling and waggin and playin...and then...several of my students and some down to earth Folkies who just wanted to see what this whole Funk thang is about.

You see I have been spreading the funk to the folks at swallow hill...getting in arguments with people that Funk IS folk music....and by the end of the night when we had the dance floor full of babies and greyhaired people in their 60's all shaking their booty!

our first set was so fun! WE played Music for My Mother First...for the mother's in the audience and just to get warmed up...then we moved into some influential stuff...like.

May the Circle Be Unbroken and Hem of His Garments

followed up by some serious Country Funk!!!!

Funky Dollar Bill
Country Boy
Can You Get to That?
My Automobile
Biological Speculation
Testify
Verge/sitar

Testify proved to be absolute MAGIC...those older folks in the crowd knew the song...they hadn't heard it in a LONG TIME>..but they sang along and were singing it on the way out.
There had been much controversy over whether or not this type of music would go over with the FOLKIES..but ...you KNOW IT WAS A HIT...at least with those that bothered to TRY.
My own band had been dragging their feet a lil about this show....but every one of them had more fun than they thought they would...and we learned some great new/OLD tunes!

At the end we all agreed that music made by folk for and with folk...is FOLK music!
